this is a story about the day nick & becca joined their lives.

gosh, i love these two. and i love their families. and their friends. and this day. becca & nick are truly one of the sweetest couples i have ever encountered. love & family were the absolute center of their wedding & it was a beautiful thing. through & through it was a group effort–they were surrounded with help from family and friends with food, decorations, and tiny details. they were married at nick’s grandmother’s gorgeous house on saturday, and it was perfect.

nick has what i call “nice eyes.” just by looking at him, you can see that he is a man with a huge & caring heart. so much love. and then he speaks. and it’s even more evident. nick adores becca. adores. the way he talked about his nerves before the ceremony, how he expressed just how excited he was to see his bride. smitten.

one of the sweetest, most beautiful moments of the day. becca, separate from the rest of the group, quietly and caring-ly dressed her son. sweet, sweet hunter. he is so blessed with such amazing parents.

these girls have been friends since elementary school. and now one of them is getting maaaarried. so fun.

seriously?! becca, you are stunning.

smiling at that husband-man!

hunter is a lucky, lucky boy. so much love.

becca adores nick right back. she could not stop sneaking peeks at him. she seemed a teensy bit overwhelmed before the ceremony, but that all stopped as soon as she reached him at the end of the aisle. lovelovelove. right where she belongs.

. becca & nick are light-hearted & fun loving, but also some of the most sincere and loving people i have encountered. seriously. multiple times, throughout the day, i would catch them in passing & they would stop me, hug me and thank me over & over. so much love & so much gratitude–yes, it is so lovely to feel genuinely appreciated, but it is even more lovely to experience the deep love that becca & nick have for their relationships. very intentional. they were clearly so appreciative for all of their support, for all of the love that surrounded them on saturday. at one point, i was talking to becca & she said to me, “this is literally the best day of my life. everything was perfect. everyone we love is right here with us.” i can see how loved this couple is, and how much they love right back. it was such a wonderful thing to see.

as a wedding photographer, i think there is often underlying pressure to photograph a day in the prettiest light. to crop out messy rooms, to place shoes in a perfect location, to photoshop flyaway hairs. take pictures in a way that everything looks wedding-blog-perfect.
as i was photographing nick & becca’s day, i found myself attracted to the teeniest little details. guests’ feet, bridesmaid mingling, the cute & “quintessential grandma” decorations scattered about the house.
yes, i understand that a first dance photograph with a little boy running through probably won’t become a profile picture.
i doubt anybody will order a canvas of hunter being distracted with a cell phone. or the plate of crackers sitting on the bed. i get that.

but it’s all important.

as an artist, i want to make the world pretty. i want to show people the pretty that is all around us, always. and sometimes that doesn’t necessarily mean inserting myself into the situation & moving things around. i think it’s about just being present. and seeing the beauty in what already is. it’s in the details that a life is found. sometimes people overlook the pretty that is in their mannerisms, their quirks, their relationships. but it’s there. i don’t need to “fix” anything, i just need to give voice to it. the beauty of becca & nick’s wedding is found in every piece of it: the bigs and the littles. the way that becca’s childhood best friend looked at her as she was finally dressed as a bride. the way nick grabbed his gorgeous son before he & his wife walked down the aisle. the beautiful cake receiving it’s final touches during the ceremony.  it all played a piece in their day. it is all significant, it is all beautiful, & it all made up the most perfect day for becca & nick to join their lives. it was my absolute honor to be present for it.
